Wanted: Problem Solvers! The James Dyson Award 2026

I’m currently reading James Dyson’s autobiography, "Against the Odds". It’s an impressive case study in courage and creative thinking. Dyson needed 5,127 prototypes before his first bagless vacuum cleaner was ready for the market. For us at Yondive, this is an important reminder: innovation requires tremendous perseverance.
The James Dyson Award is an international design prize that recognizes, encourages, and inspires the next generation of design and engineering professionals. It is open to current and former design students and is organized by the James Dyson Foundation, James Dyson’s charitable foundation, as part of its mission to inspire young people to engage with design and engineering. The application deadline is July 15.
Innovation is rarely the result of a single flash of inspiration. It arises from perseverance, iteration, and a willingness to learn from setbacks. A quote from James Dyson sums up this mindset:
“There is no such thing as a quantum leap. There is only dogged persistence – and in the end you make it look like a quantum leap.”
